How to receive points

This section tells you what initiatives your team can organize to receive points and how many points you will receive for each initiative. We don't expect you to participate in all of them; just pick what works for you and your team. Also check out the Team Leader Resources at the bottom of this page for more information and resources related to different initiatives.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us at invisiblechildrenchallenge@gmail.com. We'd be happy to help you.

Please check back often as we may be adding more information as the Challenge goes on.

Invisible Children Movie Screenings:
To borrow a DVD for a movie screening, e-mail the date of your screening, which DVD you'd like to show and the name of the person who'll be picking up the DVD to invisiblechildrenchallenge@gmail.com. You will be able to pick up the DVD at the McMahon Hall Director Office (McMahon Hall, ground level, across from the dining hall) the day of your screening. DVDs available on a first come, first serve basis.
At the bottom of this page is a sample attendance sheet your team could download and use.
  • Invisible Children: rough cut (55 minutes)
Can a story change the world? In the spring of 2003, three young Americans traveled to Africa in search of such a story. What they found was a tragedy that disgusted and inspired them. A story where children are the weapons and children are the victims. The "Invisible Children: rough cut" film exposes the effects of a 20 year-long war on the children of Northern Uganda. These children live in fear of abduction by rebel soldiers, and are being forced to fight as part of a violent army. This wonderfully reckless documentary is fast paced, with an MTV beat, and is something truly unique. To see Africa through young eyes is humorous and heart breaking, quick and informative - all in the very same breath. See this film, you will be forever changed.
  • The Rescue (31 minutes):
The Rescue documents the current crisis in central Africa where children are being abducted and forced to fight as child soldiers in Joseph Kony's rebel war. This film chronicles three young filmmakers' journey into this conflict, and the quest to end it.
  • GO! The Schools For Schools Film (41 minutes):
GO! captures the adventure of a group of American students traveling to northern Uganda during the summer of 2007. From fundraisers in the US to the displacement camps outside Gulu, the documentary asks the simple question of how far you'd be willing to go to make a difference in the world.
Not sure how to organize a screening?
  • Watch one of the documentaries at your next organization meeting. Team members also receive a point for watching a documentary; we want all of you to know as much as possible about the cause you're supporting.
  • Living on campus? Ask your RA, Hall Director or Area Council and see if they'd help you organize a screening in the residence hall.
  • Talk to your professors, especially if you have classes addressing Human Rights, Africa, etc. Maybe one of your professors would let you watch one of the documentaries during class; or they may be willing to give your class extra credit for watching one of the documentaries.
  • Rent a room in the Student Union with a laptop and projector and host an Invisible Children screening there.
A sample attendance sheet can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.

Fundraising:
Make sure to share information about Invisible Children when doing a fundraiser. You could have handouts, posters, etc. For more information Invisible Children, go to http://www.invisiblechildren.com/.

A popular and successful fundraising method has been writing letters to friends and family asking them to donate to Invisible Children. Your team could send e-mails or letters to individuals, who you think may be interested in supporting this cause, and ask them to mail checks made payable to "Invisible Children Inc." to you. You can then turn in all of these checks to the McMahon Hall Director Office to receive points for your team.
