Getting started

Thank you for your interest in the Invisible Children and the Invisible Children Challenge!

The Challenge will start in January. Team Registration will become available in late October, but that doesn't mean you can't start getting involved yet.

We recommend to start with educating yourself:

If you haven't seen Invisible Children - The Rough Cut yet, follow the link on our Links section to watch the 1-hour documentary that started it all.
A great summary/update is The Rescue video; 30 minutes telling you how Invisible Children started, the history of the war and what has happened since the start of the Invisible Children movement. We've also posted a link to this video.

Attend the Face-to-Face tour to see a new Invisible Children video and get a chance to talk to a Ugandan advocate, who has been affected by the war.

About the Invisible Children Challenge - UConn Fall 2011!!!

There is an invisible war in east Africa where one man, Joseph Kony, uses children as soldiers. The Invisible Children Movement tries to raise awareness about this war by creating documentaries about night commuters, child soldiers and other innocent people whose lives have been affected by the longest running war in Africa.

Since 2003 when three young filmmakers traveled to Africa in search of a story and returned committed to making a difference in the lives of the children they had met, Invisible Children has grown into an international movement that educates, rebuilds schools in Uganda, creates job opportunities for Ugandans, lobbies Congress and shows high school and college students what it means to be an activist.

The Invisible Children Challenge at UConn encourages students to form teams, which will compete to see who can raise the most awareness and funds for Invisible Children. This is an annual event that was first started in Spring 2011. The first Challenge was a great success ($543.32 were raised, 509 books collected and 5 screenings were hosted on campus), but this Fall we're taking it to the next level and hope that even more students will participate. Anyone can form a team! Teams will get points for their awareness and fundraising campaigns as well as for involvement in other Invisible Children initiatives. On Saturday, December 3, 2011, all participants will get together to celebrate with friends at a Ugandan Cultural Night, learn more about Invisible Children and find out who the winning teams of the 2nd Annual Challenge are.
